Gahat Dal | Kulth Dal
Gahat Dal or Kulth dal. is widely known for its curative properties of treating gall bladder stones, kidney stones. It is also use for maintaining renal health. It contains no chemical or pesticide, sourced mainly from the high rises of Uttarakhand.
Kulfi dal that is produce in the hills of Uttarakhand is quite beneficial for health. It is also cultivated in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. The effect of Gahat is hot, that is why the people of Uttarakhand prefer Gahat Dal Soup in winters.
Recipe for Gahat.
It is also well known for its positive impact on kidneys. This delicious dish of Gahat (Kulath) tempered with gandharein, asafoetida, and cumin seeds.
Ingredients (serves 4-5)
- Gahat (Kulath) – 300 gm
- Tumeric – 1 Tea Spoon
- Rice paste – 50 gm
- Coriander powder – 1 Tea Spoon
- Red chili powder – 1 Tea Spoon
- Oil – 50 ml
- Ginger – 20gm
- Asafoetida – Pinch
- Garlic – 4-5 flakes
- Cumin Seeds – ½ Teaspoon
- Gandherin – Small piece
- Soak the dal in water for 1/2 hour.
- Boil the dal in water.
- Add ginger, garlic, turmeric, coriander and half of the chilly powder and salt.
- Add rice paste and cook for some time.
- Temper with cumin powder, asafoetida, and gandharein.
Garnish the dal with either little boiled rice or with lots of butter and coriander leaves.
